KABELE CAMP
SOUTH LUANGWA

our story
Not merely as a visitor or transient observer — but as a child shaped by this landscape—the valley. The river, the dusty trails, the nighttime sounds of hippos, and the quiet understanding that here, nature isn’t simply something to watch; it’s a way of life you participate in.
Our founding property, Kabele Lagoon Camp, was conceived and designed by Simon. Raised in the Luangwa Valley, he grew up surrounded by the very rivers, wildlife, and vast skies that now attract visitors from around the world. Yet his path into tourism and conservation did not begin in lodges or on game drives—it was rooted in the local community that has long lived in harmony with this remarkable landscape.
This area—the Luangwa Valley—shaped his childhood and offered him so much. His goal wasn’t to create something flashy or overly complex; rather, he sought to establish a camp that truly reflects what it’s like to grow up here in Luangwa.
Having been raised in this valley and later receiving educational support through Project Luangwa instilled within him a deep sense of responsibility. That assistance motivated him to pursue a career while ultimately reinvesting in the very community that has significantly influenced his life.
Through collaboration with the local community, we identified Kabele Lagoon as our founding property, which is part of this commitment. By setting up operations here, we are creating meaningful local jobs, supporting livelihoods, and contributing to educational initiatives such as school reading programs and sponsorship opportunities that empower young individuals to build strong foundations early on in their lives.
